Blending two genres into one game
The client came to us wanting a game that mixes two different titles from two genres: the combat of Vampire Survivors with the resource collection and base building of Survivor.io. The goal is to drop players into a world that starts out completely dark and reveals itself as they explore. It also includes a base-building mechanic where the player constructs a base from the resources they collect, then fights a final boss at the end.
The world has different dungeons that enemies spawn from and where most of the resource chests are placed, so the player must visit each dungeon to collect resources and destroy the spawners to stop new enemies. Finally the boss arrives, and the player fights it while defending their base. This project isn't just brand promotion but a proper game in its own right — so rather than building the final version first, we started with a prototype.
For a game to succeed, its core mechanics have to be fun to play — so we started with a prototype of every main mechanic
Deciding on the mechanics
First we prepared proper docs with each mechanic explained in detail, to avoid confusion later and have a clear vision in mind before building.
Preparing milestones
We put each major mechanic into its own milestone — starting with combat against enemies, moving to base building, and finally the boss fight.
Weekly updates and improvements
During development we delivered weekly updates with playable demos. With each week the game kept improving, until it reached a point where it was genuinely fun to play.
An exploration + survival world where you delve into dungeons and defend your base against powerful enemies
The core mechanics — combat, pathfinding, base building and more — are ready, and the game is already exciting to play. Most of the art right now comes from online assets since it's still in the prototype phase, but it will soon be replaced with original work, alongside plenty more features like a map, new enemies and power-ups.
WHAT THE CLIENT SAYS
“I really appreciated the team's commitment. Their communication was excellent and everything was delivered on time. They also brought great gameplay ideas — many now in the game — and handled all feedback maturely. Every task was completed properly and on schedule.”
